Dear Kylians, 

It’s been a difficult couple of weeks, first with everything happening in and around the web3 space, from stablecoins de-pegging to SEC crackdown on staking to court cases, investigations, and arrest of builders in the space. Amid this chaos, on the 28th of March, Bitcoin hit a market cap of $ 540 billion; a decade prior, it hit $1Billion for the first time. This shows that despite the growth of the web3 space, we’re arguably still in the nascent stage. 

Speaking of our layer-1 data infrastructure, Kylin Network, we’ve had our highs and lows in the last couple of weeks. All of which we’ll explore in more detail. This update will double down as both a technical and general community update.

Community Updates:

Delisting of KYL from Kucoin: This came as a complete shock to the Kylin Network team, as there has been prior communication between Kucoin and Kylin Network. Both teams have enjoyed a collaborative relationship since listing the $KYL on the Kucoin exchange. Since KYL, the ERC-20 native token of Kylin Network, was marked as Special Treatment Area ST based on liquidity and trading volume, the team behind Kylin worked towards rectifying this, and there was progress.

A target trading volume was later communicated to the Kylin team, which was met and maintained throughout the period from when the team was informed. A trading campaign and other marketing promotion activities were also planned between both teams to boost the trading volume; further, as we build our solution to sustain the interest in the token. This is why KuCoin’s delisting announcement publication took the team by surprise. However, as we’ve mentioned in our announcement, which was published right after the delisting publication, we encourage our community members that still have their KYL on Kucoin to move their assets to non-custodial wallets as the team works towards finding a new trading exchange for the token.

Next Steps: A plan is already in place by the core team, one that involves listing KYL on another leading exchange, but for this to happen, we need to see out the entire delisting process from Kucoin. We expect the delisting process to last for some weeks before KYL trading on Kucoin is completely halted on the 28th of September, 2023, at 10:00 UTC.

Part of the options being considered is moving liquidity back to Uniswap. But there exists the constraint of gas fees when trading, which many community members complained about. We are also speaking with team members behind some Dexes on the Dotsama ecosystem, which is another viable option.

Before long, the team will announce the next steps concerning making KYL tradable, so keep your eyes peeled for that.

Kylin Network 2023 Roadmap Announced

In a recent post, the Kylin team shared with the community its plans and aspirations for 2023 and its determination to achieve every item on the list. As weeks turn to months, the team is will work tirelessly to ensure that we gradually start striking out items off that list, and we commit ourselves to sharing periodic updates with the community as regards the development/implementation of items listed on the roadmap.

At the end of the year, an achievement board similar to this one that was shared towards the tail end of 2022 about our achievements in 2022 will be shared for the achievements of this year. We appreciate the continued support of the Kylin community in these trying times for the project and the entire crypto space.

The Kylin tech team recently carried out additional code fixes to improve the quality of the minimum viable product submitted to the Substrate Builders Program. Details of the fixes can be found below, as we all - team and community - earnestly await feedback from the Substrate Builders Program.

In the past weeks, we’ve received queries and complaints from the Kylin community about the progress of the builder's program as regards Kylin’s Oracle pallet becoming available for other parachains to utilize. We want to use this opportunity to say that communication with the Substrate Builders Program has not been the most productive. The Kylin team will not relent until the MVP goes live on testnet and eventually mainnet and becomes available for other parachains to access.

Parachain Lease on Kusama and Polkadot

The lease period of Pichiu, Kylin’s Canary Network on Kusama, is fast running out. At the time of writing, we had only 18 days left. In that time, we hope to accomplish several tasks before the lease expires.

• Manage community member's assets on Pichiu Network (e.g., Lockdrop & vesting)

• Distribute the ten months PCHU lockdrop reward as specified in this update.

• The team initially hoped to utilize the Kusama parachain to serve as a test environment for the first iteration of the MVP. We will urge the builders program for some feedback, as we remain optimistic of our initial goal.
  

Kylin’s Polkadot lease still has 459 days left; we have already issued the KYL tokens on Polkadot, and the next step will be to get the MVP live on the network. Once this happens, the team will work towards getting other parachains to utilize our pallets which will serve as a data center for Polkadot, where our substrate native KYL will serve as several utilities. 

PCHU Second Lock Drop Distributed 

On the 1st of March, the Kylin tech team completed the second lock drop distribution of PCHU to our community members. As detailed in this post, this first distribution saw 1.5% of the total Pichiu supply of 100 Million distributed, at 0.0022 $PCHU per $KYL held.

We are thrilled to present the Kylin Network's ambitious aims for 2023. Our team has been working tirelessly to reimagine and develop a configurable and multi-level oracle infrastructure that will revolutionize the decentralized data industry. With great satisfaction and confidence in this milestone's feasibility, we announce that one of our major achievements for 2023 would be the launch of the Kylin Data Oracle Minimum Viable Product (MVP). This MVP will enable parachains to install pallets to access data feeds on the Kylin Network. However, that's not all. We are also introducing the Federated and decentralized Parachain Oracle System (FDPOS) and the first 3rd Party Oracle Scripting on both Pichiu and Kylin.

Our integration and partnerships with other DeData projects, such as Ruby Protocol, NFT3, Glacier Network, and Vinci Protocol, are also one of our aims in 2023. Our MVP will be mature enough to collaborate with the other solutions from the DeData ecosystem. The Kylin community had an AMA session with the members of the Kylin core team on Monday, 13th February, on the Kylin official Telegram channel. Co-Founder & Strategic Lead Dylan Dewdney, and Operations and Marketing Lead Agbona Igwemoh, were present to respond to questions curated from the community a couple of days after the AMA announcement.

The project is not abandoned, no. That said, it is true that we are in a downgear mode due to limited runway and also due to the larger market downturn as well as the Dotsama eco not gaining the traction we thought it would by now.

🚀 Community Question: What is the status of the MVP, How much coding is needed to launch? When do you expect it to launch?

Kylin Team Member (A.G): As on the last time we spoke to the Substrate Builders Program, they haven't concluded their review. With regards to how much coding that is needed, it will be available in the next Technical update coming out this week. Once we have the reveiw from the SBP, we'll have a clearer picture of a launch date.

💼 Kylin Team Member (Dylan): Offhand, I don’t see why we wouldn’t be able to provide that.

Please keep in mind we raised far less than many other peers like Moonbeam or Astar, etc., and we did a pure token raise rather than an equity raise.

💼 Kylin Team Member (A.G): We have 3 full-time developers working on Kylin Network, and a couple of part-timers who helped push the MVP over the finished line.

💼 Kylin Team Member (Dylan): Hmm, I didn’t do that to hide my professional activities, indeed, you can check my LinkedIn to see all my affiliations, work titles, and history. 

I did it to more succinctly highlight my experience and expertise in the space. That’s all.

💼 Kylin Team Member (Dylan): I’m hoping for a market reversal, broadly, and also for Dotsama. If we (collectively projects working within Dotsama) can get more applications built out for dotsama in that timeframe and some better traction, then I think we can have more of a cadence and tempo to think about the significance of the pallets integration long term.

🚀 Community Question: ETH has high fees, so why is KYL using ETH chain to withdraw on Kucoin? Deposit on Gate.IO is paused as well. Please fix these.

💼 Kylin Team Member (A.G): Presently, KYL is ERC-20 native, hence why withdrawal on exchanges like Kucoin is processed via the ETH chain. Hopefully when the substrate KYL goes live, we’ll probably see the end of this. Gate.io is not an official partner, so we don’t have control there.

🚀 Community Question: What metrics demonstrate the stability and growth potential of your business?

💼 Kylin Team Member (Dylan): We are pre-revenue in a space that is experimental, so that’s a little tough to answer tbh

🚀 Community Question: What is the concrete timeline for finalizing the MVP and adoption from other projects. In short when will revenue for the project based on a useable product start?

🚀 Community Question: Do Dylan and Kevin draw a salary from the treasury? Who pays for the jet setting to all these conferences?

💼 Kylin Team Member (A.G): The Kevin and Dylan are currently not receiving salary, and I personally have my salary reduced twice. All this is to extend the projects run way.

🚀 Community Question: How does your statement „Community is the most important part“ make sense when there is no transparency from the team towards the Community or Ambassadors (many left because of lacking transparency)

💼 Kylin Team Member (A.G): We value our community and ambassadors, and appreciate them (especially the ambassadors, past and present) for propelling the project this far. This AMA we're having is an effort to be more transparent with the community. Could we have done better in the past? certainly yes, we just try to improve from this point on, and strive to be more transparent.

💼 Kylin Team Member (A.G): With SEC crack down on various projects offering staking, we'll have to be a little more careful now, even there’s rumor that Polkadot is halting it’s staking program. We had staking in the plans, we'll review appropriately, and communicate further down the line.

Happy New Year, Kylians, and welcome to the first Kylin Network monthly community of 2023. We’re excited to share the journey this year as we chart a course for a successful 2023 together. 

Kylin Reviews Partner List.

Kylin Network started the year by announcing a reviewed list of its partners: Towards the second half of the last year, 2022, dark bearish clouds started emerging, engulfing the favorable market conditions enjoyed for over a year. These dark bearish clouds only grew darker as the year progressed toward the later stages. Several unfortunate events along the way created unprecedented FUD in the web3 space. One that OGs claim has never happened in the entire existence of the space. 

This turn of events saw several projects carry out massive layoffs, reducing the operation cost. While other projects went into maintenance mode to save cost while hoping the market would recover. The last category is the projects that closed shop by simply sunsetting the project and halting its activities completely.

In line with the current market reality, the Kylin team had to review the list of its partners as it prepared for its MVP launch. We’re pleased to remain partners of some of the leading projects in the Dotsama ecosystem and beyond as we strive to add more partners to the list. Update on The Kylin Oracle MVP

Sometime in November 2022, the Kylin technical team completed developing what will be the first version of a substrate-based decentralized truth machine. The codes were submitted to the Substrate Builders Program for review on 5th December 2022; we received a comment review from Daniel Bigos from the SBP program, which you can find here.

Tristan, one of Kylin’s developers, successfully fixed the commits made by the program. When asked by the Kylin team about the status of the MVP review, Substrate responded that the review is still ongoing. We will continue to monitor the situation as we plan for the eventual launch of the MVP.

The goal is to wrap up the review, feedback, and code fixes from Substrate Builders Program on or before the end of the first quarter of 2023.

Kylin Commenced the First Traunch of PCHU Lock Drop Distribution.

The PCHU token lock drop distribution commenced in January. Kylin community members who took part in the first wallet handshake exercise; successfully matching their Erc-20 wallet, where their KYL holdings are held, to a substrate wallet, where they hope to receive their PCHU. The members who initially received the first airdrop were further rewarded with more PCHU based on their KYL holdings. For every KYL held, community members received 0.02213 PCHU. 

Pichiu Network, Kylin’s canary network on Kusama, secured its parachain status in April 2022. As a reward to the community for its continued support, the team behind Kylin and Pichiu allocated 11% of Pichiu’s 100 Million total supply to the community in various incentive programs. 6% Holders reward, and 5% Lock drop rewards. For community members that missed the wallet handshake window, the dev team is considering possible options to onboard community members that missed out in the last exercise ahead of the next lock drop. Stay tuned.

At exactly 18:05 CET, 22nd January 2023, the Kylin technical team completed the distribution of the PCHU lock drop based on the initial tokenomics detailed in a post made by the team. This distribution came precisely three months after the first token distribution was made to community members who carried out the wallet handshakes, as detailed in this post. 

As announced in a recent blog post published last week, based on the schedule, 5% of the 100M PCHU tokenomics was allocated to the “Lock Drop,” this figure comes down to 5M PCHU. This distributing schedule was 0.5% to be distributed monthly for ten months. And yesterday, the Kylin dev team successfully distributed 1.5M PCHU, which accounts for three months (November, December & January) of lock drop supply.

Next Lock Drop Distribution and What’s Next?

The next trench of PCHU distribution will occur on the 22nd of April, 2023. In the meantime, as we uphold our promise to the community, Kylin will continue exploring options to make PCHU tradable on exchanges (DEX and CEX) in the coming months. 

How to Get on the Next Lock Drop

Unfortunately, the lock drop is closed for now. Only community members that carried out the first handshake are eligible, as they received the just concluded lock drop and will be eligible to receive the next. We will consider reopening the registration after the subsequent Lock Drop distribution. Also, changes in the amount of KYL held in registered Erc-20 will not impact the amount of PCHU received.

Hello, Kylians. 

2022 was an interesting year, with lots of highs and lows for Kylin Network and the entire web3 space. Kylin achieved several highs during 2022, the most prominent being securing parachain victories on both Kusama and Polkadot, accompanied by participation in a score of tier-1 official web3 events and completing the Kylin Oracle MVP development.  

However, one of the significant accomplishments that are not spoken highly enough of was completing the PCHU token reward distribution, as detailed in this community periodic update. A total of 67,290,000 KYL tokens were hand shook, and in return, 2,287,860 PCHU was distributed. The outstanding 3,712,140 PCHU tokens were reallocated to the Kylin Community Incentive Program, which will be launched sometime this year; further details will be shared soon. 

Pichiu, Kylin’s canary network on Kusama, secured its parachain status in April 2022. As a reward to the community for its continued support, the team behind Kylin allocated 11% of Pichiu’s 100 Million total supply to the community in various incentive programs. 6% Holders reward, and 5% Lock drop rewards.

Today, we’re happy to announce the commencement of the PCHU Lock drop reward distribution. Only community members who completed the initial handshake between ERC-20 (where their KYL is held) and Substrate (where they intend to hold their Pichiu) wallet addresses, as detailed in this post, are eligible to receive the PCHU lock drop.

PCHU Lock Drop

As initially described in a previous post, 5% PCHU of the 100 Million total supply was allocated as a “Lock drop.” 0.5% PCHU will be airdropped to KYL holders who lock their KYL per month for ten months, culminating in 5% after the ten months. The monthly lock drop was initially designed to kickstart in November 2022. We’re excited to share that the first batch of “Lock Drop” rewards will be distributed on the 22nd of January, 2023.

After missing the lock drop reward distribution for November, and December, on the set date of January 22nd, 2023, 1.5% of the 100 Million Pichiu will be distributed to community members that registered in the first token distribution by completing the wallet handshake. The wallet handshake is now closed and will not be reopened until further notice.

As detailed in a previous post, this first drop will see 1,500,000 PCHU distributed to KYL current holders, who have already carried out the handshake process. Kylin developers already possess the substrate wallet addresses of all community members who successfully handshake substrate and ERC-20 wallet addresses.

Partnerships are an integral factor in the makeup of a successful web3 project. The core tenet of this space is decentralization and having partners that play various roles by either utilizing the product/services or providing critical services to specific projects. This keeps the ecosystem ticking, as collaboration is everything.

What this sets up for Kylin is a stream of partners to potentially utilize the Kylin data oracle within the Dotsama ecosystem, now that Kylin has a parachain live on both Kusama and Polkadot. For partners outside the Dotsama ecosystem, there’s the opportunity to utilize the Kylin data oracle once it becomes available across chains. 

In the wake of the existential crisis happening across the entire global market, web3 included. It’s pretty tough with all that is happening, mass layoffs, Billionaires losing fortunes, and inevitably, projects sunsetting.

The Kylin team intends to start the year by sharing a pruned list of all of Kylin’s existing partners as we work towards the launch of our minimum viable product. Kylin continues to interact and onboard more parachain teams to the Federated and Decentralized Parachain Oracle Systems (FDPOS) created by members of the Kylin technical team. We are positive more parachain teams currently in the FDPOS will eventually become official partners of the project. 

The partnership page of the Kylin Network official website has been duly updated with partners that are still in operation and building. From here on, the team will conduct a partnership review every six months to add partners who could find a way back on their feet and continue. Also, this exercise will prune out projects that have stopped operations.

Highlights of Key Achievements in 2022

ERC20 $KYL Staking launched February - October 2022.

Sequel to a Tweet thread published earlier on the official Kylin Network Twitter account, announcing the successful contract audit of the Kylin staking page. On February 19th, 2022, the Kylin team announced the $KYL staking program. The program, which was subject to coming to a halt once Kylin secured a Polkadot Parachain win, came to a close in October, weeks after Kylin secured its Polkadot Parachain status.

Pichiu, Kylin’s Canary Network, Win A Parachain Slot on Kusama Network

Arguably, one of Kylin’s most crucial achievements in 2022 was securing a parachain status for the first time. The Kylin community, team, and supporters locked up enough KSM to help secure slot 31 on Kusama.

ERC20 KYL Listing on Kucoin

Due to the high cost of transaction fees on DEXs at the time, the Kylin team decided to migrate $KYL liquidity from existing Dexs like Uniswap to a tier-1 exchange in Kucoin, making the KYL accessible to more traders, users, and the community at large.

Kylin Network Presents at Blockchain Oracle Summit and Polkadot Hacker House

Kylin Network was present in over ten offline events across various corners of the globe. One of the most important was the presentation at the Blockchain Oracle Summit in Berlin, Germany.

A few weeks later, Kylin was present in New York for the Polkadot Hacker House, where the then-Tech Lead presented to other parachains on what is being developed at Kylin Network.

The most important accomplishment of 2022 would be securing the parachain auction in such grand fashion, breaking records in the process. Massive support from the amazing Kylin community.

Kylin Network sponsors DeData Salon which is part of the Berlin Blockchain week. We had members of the Kylin and DeData core team members speak, and host various conversations during the event.

PCHU Reward Distribution to $KYL Holders

The Pichiu team highlighted details to the PCHU token distribution, which was designed to incentivize the community members who hold ERC-20 KYL tokens. There was an onboarding process put in place by the team which was meant to simply direct the holders of the Ethereum-based KYL to a substrate based wallet address, where they will receive their PCHU tokens. The initiative was a success!

Closing Points

As the remarkable 2022 draws to a close, we believe a recap benchmarking our achievements, in light of our initial ambitions we published in a tweet at the start of the year will be a great way to appraise how far we’ve come. We’re aware not all item was accomplish, as unaccomplished items will be reviewed, and if still relevant to the direct Kylin hopes to move towards, this will be enlisted in the 2023 Achievement board for team Kylin.

Kylin's Latest upgrade: Kylin finished its code updates, upgrading its substrate pallet to polkadot-v0.0.30

BiFrost Contributors Rewarded: Parachain contributors via proxies like Bifrost received their rewards in PCHU during November technical efforts.

Federated and Decentralized Parachain Oracle System: One of the final acts of our outgoing Tech Lead, Sylvain Cormier, was to create the FDPOS. This group comprises of over 35 team members from over 30 parachains interested in a parachain oracle system. A post was published on Polkadot Forum to this effect.

Technical Update Contributors: After the departure of Kylin’s Tech lead, the November and future technical updates will be worked on by the existing team of developers. This will entail the progress each developer made during the month, with relevance to key highlights that advance the technical progress of Kylin Network.

Hello Kylians, 

We are sorry to have to tell you that we have made a difficult decision to let go of our Technical Lead, Sylvain Cormier. It wasn’t an easy decision to let go of such a talented professional, and we want to thank him for his hard work and dedication to developing the Kylin Network Truth Machine. Sylvain put in his best and most impactful efforts in the eight months he worked with us. We are particularly grateful for his contributions, including the completion of several significant technological milestones for our product, which helped us secure a Polkadot Parachain and the delivery of our MVP. 

We arrived at this decision considering that we have much fewer technological needs with the MVP completed and currently in testing and under review by the Substrate Builders Program. Usually, these would be features and not bugs for the project’s development. However, the unfortunate reality is that our treasury is depleted after almost three years of development after our relatively small initial raise. Although we are very much an OG and blue chip project in the Dotsama space, compared to our peers like Acala, Astar, and Moonbeam, our raised resourcing is a fraction of theirs. Usually, the recourse in these situations (and something many projects had as a plan B) is the liquidation of team tokens. Given the current market, this option is not viable. Our option of last resort, then, is to shrink our operational burn costs. Thus, here we are. 

It’s important to highlight that this does not -- in any way -- mean that our project is going bankrupt or shutting down. We have an existing team of talented engineers (Bart and Jacky et al.) who are capable of building and sustaining our project from where our Tech Lead left off (and indeed have been the primary implementers of many of our milestones thus far. We are making organizational changes to ensure we can continue thriving in the current market environment for an extended period. 

It’s a case of needing a level of efficiency that, unfortunately, requires us to make some hard decisions to ensure we stay alive and thrive.  

We wish Sylvain the best in his future endeavors and will continue working hard to achieve our mission. We appreciate the community’s understanding and support during this time of transition.

On the bright side, we’ll commence the $PCHU monthly lock drop rewards this month! As mentioned in the PCHU tokenomics and later in one of Kylin’s Weekly updates, for ten months, 0.5% $PCHU will be airdropped to $KYL holders who hold their eth-native $KYL on Non-custodial wallets.

Project Update

Partnership with Capsule Corps Labs

As Kylin gets closer to its minimum viable product (MVP) launch, it is essential to gather support from intending and existing Parachains who intend to utilize the Kylin Oracle. Last week, we were happy to announce our strategic partnership with Ternoa, developed by Capsule Corp Labs; Ternoa makes NFTs' mass adoption possible by standardizing on-chain NFT functions, coupled with a javascript Software Development Kit (SDK) to reach out to the most significant possible number of developers.

The partnership aims to explore the possibilities of dynamic NFTs from a synergistic data exchange standpoint between the Kylin Network and Ternoa. Once Ternoa achieves its parachain status on Polkadot, a bi-directional data channel will be established between both parachains. A non-binding letter of Intent was initiated between both parties, stating that once Kylin Oracle goes live, Ternoa will be part of the early adopters of the Kylin Oracle service. 

Future Partnerships with other Parachains

Currently, the Kylin team is carrying out our business development endeavors in reaching out to parachains on the DOTSAMA ecosystem, working on having a symbiotic relationship that will see these parachains utilize the Kylin Oracle once it goes to mainnet. Kylin will have interested parachains install the Kylin pallet that will form a bi-directional data flow that will see each parachain report feeds to the Kylin Oracle. Kylin will feed that given parachain data based on the parameter/specifics requested, making it truly composable and configurable.  

We'll have more strategic announcements in the coming weeks/months once the team completely seals ongoing and prospective conversations with DOTSAMA parachains. With this in place, Kylin will hold a parenting role in the ecosystem, making it a Data Center for the Polkadot and Kusama ecosystems. 

Kylin Oracle MVP Coded Delivered to Substrate Builders Program

Post Kylin’s parachain auction victory, the technical team has worked closely with the Substrate Builders Program on specifications for the Kylin Oracle. We’re happy to share that on the 22nd, Kylin’s Tech Lead, Sylvain, and Kylin’s Strategic lead, Dylan Dewdney, had a call with the Substrate builder’s program, where we delivered the codes for the Kylin Oracle MVP.

The code base will be reviewed, and a feedback process will take two weeks. Until then, fingers crossed.

Kylin Code Upgrade: The Kylin team, earlier this month, successfully upgraded our substrate pallet code to Polkadot-v0.9.30. This makes Kylin Network one of the few parachains to achieve this feat. 

Whitepaper Updated: The Kylin Whitepaper has seen some updates by Kylin’s Tech Lead, Sylvain Cormier. Some of the updates implemented in the recent review include the tokenomics of both Pichiu and DOT-KYL, as well as incentives/rewards for network participants. You can find the updated Whitepaper here, more information on this will be released as the Kylin Oracle becomes available. 

Marketing Endeavours:

The web3 space has been nothing short of a frenzy in November; this brought about new lows, which only worsened the market climate. Despite all the negatives, this didn’t stop the Kylin Team from firing from all cylinders as it kicked off its show and tell November while speaking about its MVP.

• YouTube Video Interview With BlockchainAndy: Kylin’s Tech Lead, Sylvain Cormier, and Marketing & Operations Lead, Agbona Igwemoh, were guests during an exclusive interview with BlockchainAndy. The conversation was about technicality, Polkadot's choice amidst other Layer0 blockchains, and the journey to securing a parachain auction. 

• Twitter Spaces with BlockchainAndy: The Kylin team also had a Live AMA on Twitter Spaces with our good friend, BlockchainAndy. This interactive session was recorded for interested community members listening pleasure. 

• Kylin featured in Polkadot Weekly roundup x2: Kylin Network's monthly technical update was first featured in the Polkadot weekly roundup. Then Kylin’s latest partnership with Ternoa blockchain, which received a lot of attention around the DOTSAMA ecosystem and beyond, ultimately, got featured in the latest Polkadot weekly roundup. 

• Polkadot Hackathon LATAM Duties Continues: Since the announcement of Kylin’s invitation to host a workshop led by Kylin’s Tech Lead, Sylvain Cormier, during the Polkadot LATAM hackathon, the team has been involved with the extensive workshop that has lasted for over a month now. Recently, Kylin’s Strategic Lead, Dylan Dewdney, had a mentorship session with all the teams. And currently, Kylin’s Marketing and Operations Lead, Agbona Igwemoh, is acting as one of the Judges for the various groups. You can check out team Kylin on the Polkadot LATAM official website.

• AMA with Ternoa Team: With the latest partnership between Kylin and Ternoa, both teams have agreed to have a bi-directional AMA. First, the Kylin team was at Ternoa’s Discord Server, where they were hosted for an exciting AMA session with the community. Today, Kylin will host Ternoa on the official Telegram channel via voice chat for an immersive experience. 

Community Update: In order to attain high quality in community periodic update that Kylin shares with it’s community, we’ve decided to make the weekly update now come bi-weekly. This will take effect immediately and will remain so for the foreseeable future.

Kylin Network x Ternoa Partnership Announcement

More than ever, we need more hands to build the new iteration of the Internet, web3, to supply deeply relevant utilities from DeData to fungible & non-fungible tokens. We are excited to announce our partnership with Ternoa - a substrate-based blockchain dedicated to utility NFTs.

Ternoa makes NFTs' mass adoption possible by standardizing on-chain NFT functions, coupled with a javascript Software Development Kit (SDK), to reach out to the most significant possible number of developers.

We’re excited to provide a technical update on Kylin and Pichiu's development endeavor for October 2022. This month’s updates cover all development efforts from Kylin’s dedicated developers led by the Project’s Tech Lead, Sylvain Cormier.

Project Technical Updates

Parallel User Crowdloan rewards: Parallel used XCM without a proxy account, so the process could be fully decentralized. The corresponding Kylin account would generally be accessible with the same private key as the one on Polkadot. In this case, a sovereign account was used. We have re-distributed the rewards directly to the parallel users. We will burn all funds in the parallel’s sovereign account after the 2-year vesting.

Pichiu Airdrop: Airdrop was conducted on October 22, 2022.

A web page was created where 631 correctly signed airdrop requests were signed. Some issues encountered:

• 0 KYL balance ( 100 requests)

• Invalid substrate addresses (14 requests)

• Multiple airdrop requests using the same substrate address • unable to unstake

Suggestions were made to handle the large amounts of support requests better:

 • Set of explanatory videos

• User issue board with escalation

Total issues: 73 issues in 13 days

Distribution Pallet: Work was done to design a higher-level abstraction to help manage payouts. In doing this, it occurred that this pallet was going be closely tied to the democratic process and the manner with which people contribute and benefit. Furthermore, in anticipation of eventual regulatory intervention, we have decided to modify our economic incentives to require modest engagement in the voting process to obtain airdrops. 

The distribution pallet will also allow managing the Oracle rewards:

• Parachain reporter registration 

• Parachain creates data feed

• Parachain consumes feed

• Rewards for running various types of nodes.

Polkadot LATAM Hackathon: Our first workshop presentation was held on 21st October 2022. Sylvain Cormier, Kylin’s Tech Lead, led the session with his impeccable Spanish. Other members of Kylin's technical team were present. The overall feedback was great, we also found resources for Web3 Verifiable credentials.

Parachains have been initially approached for insights that could help redact an official proposal on the Polkadot forum. The team is working on smart contract implementation and the oracle system fees.

Application to subscan.io: An application has been filled to be listed on subscan.io

Online tool/ Internal dev playground: We now have an online tool for exploring our current networks (mainly the ones from the internal-dev-playground), http://5.189.186.250:11066/. The main purpose of this tool is to help us debug the activity of pallets. Somewhat like subscan.io but adapted to our needs.

Project Update:

As promised, on the 22nd of October, 2022, PCHU, the native coin of Kylin’s Canary Network on Kusama, was distributed to every community user that completed the ERC <> Substrate wallet handshake procedure detailed in the last project update. 

This week’s update will report on how the Pichiu coin distribution was executed and what to expect in the coming weeks. From all observations, the distribution was a complete success. However, several users encountered challenges in receiving their PCHU, most of which have been addressed. This gave rise to several questions from the community, which have also been addressed.

We received a total of 635 signed requests; however, over 149 of these requests encountered challenges stemming from the following:

• 0 KYL balance (over 100 requests)

• Invalid substrate addresses (14 requests)

• Multiple requests using the same substrate address

The total amount of KYL hand shook = 67,290,000
The total amount of PCHU distributed = 2,287,860.

Handshake done, distribution Dusted: Now that the Pichiu coin distribution has been completed, the engineering team can be reassigned to get the MVP ready for a show and tell in November. Community users that are late to the registration process will not receive PCHU. Unfortunately, there will be no new option to participate in the reception of PCHU, at least not in the form of an airdrop. Other opportunities will be made clear in this post.  

During the two months that led to last weekend’s Pichiu distribution, the team behind Kylin constantly shared reminders to ensure community members don’t miss the opportunity to receive their Pichiu. A total of 11,000,000 PCHU was allocated for our supportive community members via Lock Drop - 5,000,000 and Holders Reward - 6,000,000.

However, during the recent token distribution, only 2,287,860 PCHU tokens were successfully distributed. This was down to the low turn out of wallet address handshakes, this is far from desirable. The new direction is as follows:

The outstanding 3,712,140 PCHU will be re-allocated into the Kylin Community Incentive Program, designed to get Kylians incentivized for valuable participation to the project’s endeavours. The monthly lock drop, will be initiated from the month of November 2022. As originally described in this post, 0.5% PCHU in the “Lock Drop” allocation will be distributed to KYL holders monthly, based on a formula to be later described in a detailed post about the future PCHU distribution.

What Happens to the remaining undistributed PCHU

As Kylin continues this journey of developing a Layer-1 Data Infrastructure for DeFi and Web3 across all blockchains, starting with Polkadot, we will need to evolve and adapt our approach to development as the need arises. We know our committed community members will continue to believe in the project as they have since inception.

We will be engaging the community in various endeavours to promote Kylin via an elaborate incentive framework for community members to earn more PCHU tokens by participating in democratic initiatives around the Kylin infrastructure. Some of the areas where incentives will be focus on includes, but not limited to:

KYL Staking Program

In August, we announced the pause of the ETH native KYL staking program in our weekly update, following the tweet thread that was shared on Kylin’s official Twitter account. The staking program was paused at the end of September after running for six months. We’re pleased to see the community’s eagerness and hope to see the staking Program return.

A little staking history, the Founders of Kylin Network initially intended the staking program to be originally reserved for Kylin OGs to stake their KYL holdings as they run collators helping to maintain the state of the Kylin Parachain. The size of their holdings will give them preferential treatment in accessing choice collators etc.

Having launched the Kylin project with ETH native KYL, the Founders, in a quest to provide utility for the ERC-KYL, launched the Kylin Staking Program. Now, Kylin Network now has a parachain on both Polkadot and Kusama, and with its native coins live on both chains, the project hopes to retrace its steps and offer incentives for community members that provide valuable contribution and participation to the project.

Involvement in Kylin Democratic Process Earns you Coins.

A new DeFi report commissioned by the EU Commission will inform the crypto legislation in 2023. It addresses Oracles like Kylin Network as one of three “targets of intervention” (Read an easily digestible tweet thread here). Reports such as these and others indicate the need for a paradigm shift. Web3 communities must evolve just as blockchain technology did, moving away from the speculative model and towards the participatory/incentive democracy standard.

We’ll still honor the old model that have brought us thus far in web3, just like we did in the recent PCHU token distribution. But moving towards a more inclusive and engaging future, we as a Web3 community need to embrace incentive-based behavior, as this will enable Kylin and Pichiu Network to justify European Commission clauses.

We shall release a detailed post about a new staking reward system and how to get involved with the Kylin Network democratic system by running a collator or simply interacting and engaging on Kylin’s Polkassembly assembly.

Listing DOT-KYL and PCHU

The team behind Kylin are considering several options available in regards to listing PCHU, and the Polkadot-native KYL. However, the main focus of the team at this point in time, is bringing a live product to market that will provide utility to both Coins on Polkadot and Kusama respectively.

The Tech team have made significant progress on the development front, and soon enough, we’ll have the first MVP of Polkadot’s Truth Machine. This will provide utility to both KYL and PCHU, beyond staking, and in due time, the team will continue to find the right opportunity to list both coins, with the right liquidity, and perhaps, an improved market condition.

Kylin Network at the Verge of Upgrading to Polkadot-v0.9.29 

We are excited by the commitment and effort shown by the developers behind Kylin technical team. Early last week, the team successfully laid down the codes to see Kylin Network upgrade its substrate pallet to Polkadot-v0.9.29 and the weight to weight-v2 (multi-dimensional weight).

The upgrade is set to go live imminently; we’ll do well to inform the community when it does. Currently, in the DotSama ecosystem, only MoonBeam has upgraded to version 29.

Kylin Hosted a Workshop During Polkadot Hackathon

Kylin’s Tech Lead, Sylvain Cormier successfully lead a workshop during Polkadot LATAM Hackathon on the 21st October. The workshop was attending several members of the Hispanic community, and it was an engaging session. We now have a number developers willing to take on challenges to support the development of certain aspect of Kylin’s infrastructure, under the supervision of our Tech lead, and the entire development team.

It’s less than two days to the $PCHU airdrop!

The Pichiu airdrop distribution remains on October 22nd, 2022. This article serves as a reminder to Kylians who are yet to prepare for the drop. 

The PICHIU airdrop is designed to incentivize the holders of ERC20 KYL tokens. If you’re yet to prepare for the airdrop, visit the airdrop page and complete the process either through option 1 or 2. Learn more from the initial airdrop details announcement. 

PS: Option 1 is a more user-friendly and automatic process. It’s recommended. We’ve also put together guides to walk you through either of the processes. Find the documentation here. 

From the updated tokenomics, 6% of the total PICHIU supply is earmarked for Holders’ reward amounts, which equals 0.034 $PCHU per $KYL held. Take note that only 1% of the total allocation will be airdropped immediately, and the remnant will be distributed across ten months (0.5% per month).

There’s ample time to get set for the $PCHU airdrop. We encourage all holders of the ERC20 based $KYL token to participate in our canary chain airdrop. 

Please note that holders of ERC20 $KYL tokens on centralized exchanges will not be acknowledged on the token distribution initiation. Move your tokens to metamask to complete the process as prompted on the airdrop page.

Kylin Host Workshop in 2 days

As announced sometime last week, Sylvain Cormier, Kylin’s Tech Lead, will remotely host a workshop during the Polkadot LATAM Hackathon. Other Kylin Technical team members will join him. The initial workshop theme was “NFT MetaData or IPFS Storage Layer, but due to unforeseen circumstances, we will be changing the topic for the workshop to “Kylin tooling for the Federated Parachain Oracle System.”

The time for the hackathon is 15:00 UTC on the 21st of October. Interested community members can join the Kylin hackathon session via Zoom at this link. 

KYL and PCHU coins are Now Available on Nova Wallet

You can now manage and monitor your Kylin assets on Nova Wallet, one of the most advanced applications in the Polkadot Ecosystem. In a recent announcement, we shared that Pichiu and Kylin have been added to the list of parachains whose assets can be managed on the application. 

Shortly, as our product and mainnet launch draw closer, we’ll be releasing exciting programs and initiatives to promote the utility of both coins, now that they’re both parachains on Polkadot and Kusama, respectively.

Support for ETH-KYL Staking Challenges 

We have heard some complaints from our community users that find it challenging to unstake their ETH-native KYL tokens from the Kylin staking page. Which came as a directive from the team behind Kylin to ensure community members held their ETH-KYL in non-custodial wallets, which qualifies users to receive the PCHU airdrop. 

The staking program was discontinued after Kylin attained a parachain status by winning the parachain auction for slot #25. As detailed in this tweet, made by the team, after becoming a parachain, the staking program was to be paused to assess and make plans aligned with the project's goals.

We’re happy to share another weekly update on the development effort made by the team behind Kylin Network and the community leaders in promoting Polkadot’s composable and configurable multi-oracle infrastructure. In this week’s edition, we’ll touch on Kylin’s exploits in the just concluded Token2049 event in Sand Marina Bay, Singapore, upcoming events that Kylin will be a part of, product updates, and notable Kylin mentions.

Exploits at the Token2049 Event in Singapore

The Asia Blockchain Week and Token2049 was a great time out for Kylin Network on many fronts as it provided opportunities for Kylin’s Marketing and Operations Lead, Agbona Igwemoh, known as A.G, to maximize. 

Connecting with Dotsama: During the #Polkadot Asia Lounge Party, team Kylin met with team members of several other parachains. One cannot underestimate the importance of in-person connection; this helped strengthen existing relationships while creating new ones that didn’t exist before the event. A.G made a tweet about his experience during the event. You can find it here. The result of this endeavor is evident, as Kylin recently has been invited to join a significant number of Polkadot Marketing groups. Together with other parachains, Kylin is planning for future events where we’ll be present.

Also, several partnerships are currently underway with projects in the Dotsama space and those on other chains. The goal has always been to find partnerships that offer value, other than just a marketing PR stunt. And as Kylin’s technical development continues, it will be great to start connecting/partnering with projects that will utilize Kylin’s Oracle services.

Making Web3 Connections: Kylin’s long-term goal is to become a layer-1 data infrastructure for DeFi and Web3 across all blockchains. Polkadot being the first, acts as a launchpad. Connecting with other projects across other blockchains will be key to taking Kylin’s Data offerings multi-chain. As Kylin continues to build out its product, in due time, these existing connections will be a great asset as business development kicks in to ensure Kylin generates revenue from its partners. 

Kylin, Part of DeData Stack: Team Kylin, together with our sister project, Ruby Protocol, worked together during the event. DeData is a suite of web3 middleware infrastructure that will power the distributed data economy for developers, enterprises, and businesses. Kylin Network is part of this infrastructure responsible for providing reliable and validated data feeds. Collaborating with Team Ruby, DeData was pitched to other web3 collaborators and investors, where we received positive reviews. 

Project Update:

Polkadot LATAM: Kylin Network will be participating in the Polkadot Latin America Hackathon that is currently underway. We have members of the Kylin core team playing active roles in the event. Kylin’s Tech lead, Sylvain Cormier, will lead Kylin’s workshop during the hackathon, with the topic; NFT MetaData & IPFS Storage Layer. 

Other team members that will also be involved are Kylin’s Strategic Lead, Dylan Dewdney, who will act as a mentor with other leaders in the Dotsama ecosystem. Lastly, Kylin’s Marketing & Operations Lead, Agbona Igwemoh (A.G), will be one of the judges. You can check the details of the hackathon on the official website. 

Crowdloan Distribution via Parachain Proxies: After the successful parachain auction that saw Kylin Network secure parachain #25 in the previous auction, we’re excited about this giant stride achieved by the project. Our last community update announced that the DOT crowdloan rewards had been distributed. Unfortunately, some users that contributed the crowdloan via parachain proxies like Parallel haven’t received their rewards. As stated in the previous technical update, the tech team is still working on rewarding users that contributed via these channels. 

In the meantime, contact Kylin’s Community leaders on our official telegram channel if you have difficulty accessing your crowdloan reward.

Staking Program: Earlier this year, the team behind Kylin Network made a tweet thread announcing the initiation of a staking program. The program ran for six months before we won the parachain auction that saw the end of the staking program, as detailed in the tweet thread announcing its inception. Now that the ETH-KYL staking has been paused, the team behind Kylin will assess and provide more updates about the possibility of a future staking program for the DOT-KYL.

However, there will be more ways to earn DOT-KYL in the nearest future. The technical team is finalizing the development of the Kylin MVP product. There will be several opportunities within the system where community members take up roles to act as OCWs feeding the Oracle with off-chain data, for which there will be an incentive in DOT-KYL to be earned. There will be a more detailed post on the various roles there will be, as Kylin’s mainnet comes closer.

11 Days Until Pichiu Distribution!: As earlier announced, the Pichiu token distribution for the airdrop is designed to incentivize our loyal ETH-KYL holders. Holders were advised to complete an onboarding process that required handshaking their non-custodial wallets, where their KYL is held with a substrate-based wallet, where they intend to receive their PCHU tokens.

The thinking behind this is to be sure that only verified ETH-KYL holders are rewarded with PCHU, the tokens of Kylin’s Canary Network - Pichiu. You can find out more details about the process here.

We’re happy to share some technical updates on Kylin and Pichiu from our effort in September 2022. This month’s updates cover all development efforts from Kylin’s dedicated developers led by the Project’s Tech Lead, Sylvain Cormier.

Polkadot Parachain Rewards

• Early Bird: Both the regular and early birds that supported Kylin’s Parachain auction by contributing to the crowdloan have had their rewards distributed. Please visit the respective wallets you utilized to contribute to the crowdloan.

• Parachain Proxies: Users that contributed to Kylin’s parachain crowdloan through Bitfrost will receive the payment of their rewards through them. The Kylin tech team is still working on rewarding users who contributed through Parallel.

Airdrop Register Interface: Kylin’s Technical team developed an interface to enable users to register their ETH-native $KYL to receive $PCHU in an upcoming airdrop scheduled to take place on the 22nd of October 2022. You can read more about the forthcoming airdrop here.

Berlin Blockchain Week

• DeData Salon - This was an excellent opportunity to promote the work at Kylin Network. The major highlight was the promotion of the latest version of the Whitepaper, which received a lot of attention from the audience. This made for great conversation during the networking session, where we connected with other parachains in the Dotsama ecosystem and the more expansive Web3 space.

• Centrifuge XCM Workshop - This was a great opportunity to interact with other parachains at the roundtable on XCM standards.

Welcome to another weekly community update aimed at communicating Kylin’s project development in terms of technical product development, marketing, events, and collaboration with other projects in the Dotsama ecosystem and beyond.

Kylin intends to continue communicating with our most loyal and energetic community as we develop and flesh out a working Oracle to serve the Polkadot and Kusama ecosystems and other chains like Ethereum in the near future. This effort takes time, as the technical team commits to working hours, and the rest of the team collaborates and makes pertinent connections to ensure Kylin’s relevance and success in the web3 space. 

Project Update:

DOT Crowdloan Rewards Distributed: Over the past weekend, many of our enthusiastic community members who supported the Kylin Parachain auction by contributing to our crowdloan might have been surprised to receive their rewards. It was a pleasant surprise that was well-received by the community.

Also, the early-bird reward for the first 10% of DOT contributors was distributed in the wake of the new week. So, check your substrate-based wallet for your DOT crowdloan reward for those who probably haven’t gotten the memo.

If you have difficulty accessing your DOT native KYL, contact any of the Kylin community admins for assistance. 

Pichiu Airdrop Reminder: Last week, the team behind Pichiu, Kylin’s Canary Network, announced details of the upcoming PCHU airdrop. The airdrop is designed to incentivize long-term Eth-KYL, and certain steps were implemented to ensure users get their rewards. 

Each user's amount of PCHU will vary depending on the amount of KYL held by a user, which will be guided by the formula 0.034 PCHU per KYL. So, the more Eth-KYL you hold, the more PCHU you stand to receive. 

From now until Oct 22, 2022, all users must complete the onboarding process of having their Ethereum wallet where their Eth-KYL is held, handshake with a substrate-based wallet, where they hope to receive their PCHU tokens. The process takes no more than 2 minutes and can be carried out on the designated website. 

Partnerships: Since our last weekly community update, we have announced three partnerships with progressive projects within the Dotsama ecosystem. 

1. Kylin x Equilibrium: We partnered with Equilibrium to start a Kylin team for their upcoming Closed Beta where the Kylin community as a team will compete with other projects, utilizing the closed Beta developed by Equilibrium, and in the process, users can win up to $40,000 with of EQ tokens. Read more about the partnership here.

2. Kylin x Ruby: This strategic partnership between another member of the DeData Labs is instrumental to the long-term vision of the projects. Ruby Protocol, a privacy-centric web3 data management platform, is Data focused. This ecosystem partnership will enforce privacy for users, provide fine-grained access control and establish a private payment network.
   
   It is one that both projects are excited about, and you can read more via the announcement published early in September. 

3. Kylin x DeData Salon: Kylin Network was a proud sponsor of the DeData salon in Berlin as part of the Berlin Blockchain Week. Kylin’s Tech lead, Sylvain Cormier, had an exciting presentation about Kylin Network being a Federated Oracle for Parachains in the Polkadot and Kusama ecosystem first, then for the multi-chain shortly. 

Events: Team Kylin is dedicated to promoting its brand first among the Dotsama community, then to the broader web3 community. It takes initiatives, ideas, and collaborations to carry out these activities effectively. We have two initiatives coming that Kylin hopes to maximize in pushing the Decentralized Data narrative and Kylin’s role in it. 

1. Token2049 Singapore: Team Kylin will fly to Singapore for Asia’s biggest web3 event, Token2049. Kylin’s COO/CMO already confirmed he would be representing Kylin at the event, where he hopes first to connect in-person with Polkadot projects, then projects across various chains—promoting Kylin in the process. 

2. Kylin x Polkadot Insider Twitter Spaces AMA: To further promote Kylin in the Polkadot community, we’re teaming up with our friends at Polkadot Insider for an exclusive Live AMA on Twitter Spaces, where the community is welcome to ask questions that are Kylin-relevant for some time.
